Quality Food and Nice Ambiance
I have been to Sermet's many times over the years, and it never disappoints. It has a great corner location right in the middle of downtown shopping (near the legendary Bob Ellis shoe store), and features creative, affordable and delicious mediterranean fare. And welcome air conditioning in July or August ...
One thing they do really well here is sweet potato fries - dynomite. They have daily specials, usually seafood. Their pork tenderloin is famous, and they have a number of burgers and panini that are worth a trip. Salads are tasty also.
The older building is charming, occupying a corner location overlooking a constant stream of cars and pedestrian. Inside, the people watching is pretty good as well. Lunch, as you can imagine, caters to shoppers and tourists. It's pretty casual, relaxed, and unfortuantely that can apply to service as well. When they are slammed, service can be slow and the room gets pretty loud due to the high ceilings. It is old school Charleston, decorated with paintings by the artist owner, and kinda has a funky, quirky feel to it that appeals to me. It's an original.
Nice place for lunch.
