Golden Eagle is know for it's game dishes. Unfortunately, none of us ordered those because we were too full from the heavy hors d'œuvres we'd had at the cocktail party we'd just left.
It is a nicely decorated restaurant, right off of the ice skating rink in "downtown" Beaver Creek. It is pretty small, though, and broken up into numerous small rooms. We sat in a room with two large long tables, which was very noisy when both tables were fully occupied. After the other table vacated, several parties passed on joining our room because it was just a little too tight for two large parties.
Four of the six of us had the fried trout which was really well done. it was accompanied by sweet potatoes, and a savory mixture of fresh vegetables. I should have gone for the elk meatloaf, which looked and sounded divine, or the Char-Grilled Loin of Elk Agro Dolce, or the Slow Braised Antelope Osso Bucco.
They offered a cheaper, lighter menu with several options for salads and your choice of protein. Those entrees were value priced at roughly half the price of a regular entree. Because busi ness was slow, main entrees were 30% off, but still a little high given the casual non-gourmet style of the place.
Service was pretty good, although they were not very busy. Overall, I would say the food is good, not great, good location, and the prices are fairly high for a casual place, especially the wine. But it was convenient, and was a pleasant night.
